It’s been a tumultuous year for Jaime Pressly but 2011 seems to be ending on a good note – at least romantically speaking.

The actress brought her new beau, Hamzi Hijazi, along to celebrate Mohegan Sun’s 15th anniversary on Saturday in Connecticut. The pair watched Jennifer Lopez’s emotional concert along with newlyweds Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo, then attended the afterparty at Ballo inside Mohegan Sun.

Pressly, 34, who filed for divorce from entertainment lawyer Simran Singh in January, said she and Hijazi met at Lorin, his shoe store in downtown Santa Monica, Calif. The former My Name Is Earl star, who next stars in the Fox sitcom I Hate My Teenage Daughter, described their first encounter as fateful.

“I literally walked into the shoe store with my girlfriends one day shopping and there he was, so it was a kismet kind of thing,” she tells PEOPLE. “It was great.”

Actress Jaime Pressly sat down exclusively with “Extra” at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas to set the record straight on tabloid stories about her recent troubles.

Pressly wanted to clear up reports that said her Jan. 5 DUI arrest was the reason behind the divorce from her husband of two years, Simran Singh. Pressly says, “People thinking my divorce is happening because of the situation. Truth is: these are all isolated incidences.”

Pressly explained she wanted to come forward for the sake of her 3-year-old son, Desi. “I don’t ever want my son grow up and read all these false statements.”

“I have no problem saying that I’m responsible for my own actions,” the “My Name is Earl” star affirmed, adding, “I’m also human and never claimed to be perfect.”

Regarding her marriage, she continued, “We fell in love quickly. We got married very quickly. It didn’t work out the way we wanted it to. There’s nothing more to it.”

But what bothers the actress most are hurtful comments about her abilities as a mother. “When I hear the statements made that are so ridiculously unkind and untrue, it breaks my heart,” said Pressly. “It’s really hurtful on so many levels that I can’t even explain it.”

Jaime added, “I’ve watched so many people make mistakes, and never wanted to be that person. I’ve been in the business for 16… 17 years. And I’ve been very good.”

Jaime Pressly’s marriage is coming to an end.

The My Name is Earl star has filed for divorce from husband Simran Singh in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences.

Pressly, who filed the papers as Jaime Pressly-Singh, cited Dec. 27 as the date of separation. They had no children together. Pressly has a 3-year-old son, Dezi, from a previous relationship.

The actress, 33, is also seeking to deny Singh, a Beverly Hills attorney, any spousal support.

The couple got married in Sept. 2009 at the Dick Clark estate in Malibu.

Pressly’s rep declined to comment.

I just wanted to make a post here to say that aside from what I say in this post, I will not be discussing Jaime Pressly’s DUI arrest here on Jaime Pressly Web. This is first and foremost a fan site for Jaime, not a gossip blog. I do not like seeing Jaime in this situation and will not take advantage of it to “bring her down” like other sites will do.

According to People, Jaime Pressly was arrested early this morning in Santa Monica on suspicion of drunk driving. Yes, there is a mug shot, and no, I will not post it on this website.

I respect Jaime Pressly as a person and all though I am disappointed to say the least, it is not my position to judge – it is not any of yours to judge her either. In America, everyone is “innocent until proven guilty” – so please remember that before you start to judge her. We do not know her situation that caused this and we probably never will. Every day seems to bring with it a new milestone for 2 ½-year-old Dezi James — son of actress Jaime Pressly — except for a very important one.

“He’s in the process of potty training, which is not going very well,” the former My Name Is Earl star admits. “Boys for some reason don’t like to go on the potty.”

“I thought it was just my son, but it’s not,” Pressly, 32, notes.

“It’s the majority of men. Sorry, little boys. Babies. Although I do think that if men had the opportunity to just go in a diaper and let someone else clean it they would.”

That theory is based on her own experiences with Dezi.

“He looks at his little girlfriend — who is his age and is potty trained completely — and doesn’t understand,” the actress says. “[He asks], ‘Why you don’t let Mommy clean it?’ Like it’s taken some time out of his day.”

“I’m hoping by the time this [interview] comes out he will be fully potty trained,” Pressly says. “Fingers crossed!”

Talk about having that newlywed glow.

“We just got back from our honeymoon,” Jaime Pressly, the new wife of Simran Singh, told PEOPLE at the Opening Night Gala for Kooza Cirque Du Soleil at the Santa Monica Pier Saturday. “It feels like we are a team, it’s really an amazing feeling.”

The team, though, wouldn’t be complete without Pressly’s 2-year-old son Dezi, who was the focus of the evening. “I’m just excited for my son to see [the show], Pressly said of the toddler’s first time at a Cirque Du Soleil performance.

An evening out on the town isn’t typical for the My Name Is Earl star, a self-described homebody who can be found most nights cooking at home with Singh and Dezi, who is becoming fluent in Spanish and English. The one change marriage has brought for Pressly is “we’re more complete,” she said. “We’re just more of a family now.”

But don’t expect an expansion on the good thing just yet. On having more kids, she said, “Absolutely, but not now. I keep reading in the press that I’m desperate for another baby. I don’t know what Jaime Pressly they are talking about because it’s not this Jaime Pressly!”
